We'd like to extend a warm welcome to Ryan Costello, who joins the SAL team as our very first qualified Mental Health First Aider. Ryan has been a playing member for a while, and has been impressed with what he's seen so far at SAL Soccer.
"SAL Soccer UK is more than just football. It’s more than just weight loss. It’s a football platform that helps you be the best version of yourself and that can mean something different to everyone. For me it’s about being social and meeting people. For some it’s about losing weight. What does it mean for you?"
With first hand experience of mental health issues, Ryan is in a prime position to be able to offer invaluable advice to anyone seeking a friendly ear.
"Mental health is something that I’m hugely passionate about and I’m delighted to be the first mental health first aider under the SAL umbrella. I’m not a therapist. But I do know a bit about mental health and am trained to spot signs and signpost. I’m not a psychologist but I try to be a good human with big ears and plenty of empathy. I promise to never turn someone away who needs help."
You can reach out to Ryan directly or anonymously using mentalhealth@salsoccer.co.uk, and you’ll get someone who will promise to be impartial, unbiased, and remain 100% confidential.
