SAL Soccer 1 - N'hampton Exiles 1
(SAL Soccer win 9-8 on Pens)
Members from our SiZey Soccer group took to the pitch in a charity match, taking on the Northampton Exiles. For a lot of the players, it was the first time playing in a 90 minute 11-a-side match, however confident faces emerged from the tunnel on a sunny Saturday evening, eager to entertain the on-looking crowd with an exciting game of Football.
Right from the kick-off, both teams showed great energy and determination to play some lovely, free-flowing Football. Come the close of the first half, both teams had found the back of the net, with the game finely poised at 1-1. With some half-time substitutions made by both teams, the same energetic pace was continued throughout the second half. Chances were at a premium for much of the remaining game, both sides pushed hard to try and find the winner, although it still stood at 1-1 come the final whistle. An enthralling penalty shootout followed, with players and goalkeepers ready for the challenge. After 5 penalties had been taken, it was the players who were on top, with all spot kicks scored. As we entered sudden death, it was the goalkeepers who were ready to shine, and they produced a number of fine saves to keep the tension high. With the last Northampton Exiles penalty being saved, it was Nick Ingram who stepped up and slotted home to secure a 9-8 win for SAL Soccer.
Thanks to all the players and spectators for making it an evening to remember. An amazing £356.14 was raised, which will go towards the Daventry Town FC 3G pitch fund.
